director of the Department for Contemporary and Classical Dance, Hochschule fr Musik und Darstellende Kunst, Frankfurt/Main (D) studied Physical Education and Biology at the Freie Universitt Berlin and Visual Arts at the Hochschule der Knste in Berlin. In 1977 he started his dance education, taking classes in Contact Improvisation, followed by studies in modern and contemporary dance, release and alignment oriented techniques as well as Body-Mind Centering. Since over 30 years he has been involved intensively with studying, teaching and performing Contact Improvisation. From 1978 until 1998 he has been a collective member of Tanzfabrik Berlin and one of the artistic directors until 1995. Between 1981 and 1997 Dieter Heitkamp choreographed over 18 evening long dancepieces for Tanzfabrik Berlin. In 1986 he worked as a guestchoreographer for Pizza Girl with the Ballett Frankfurt. He also created choreographies for two theatre productions at the Freie Volksbhne Berlin as well as for Video and TV productions. In 1997 he choreographed and designed the set for Le Disperazioni del Signor Pulcinella for the Staatsoper Berlin. His choreographies have been presented worldwide. He was a founding member of the German Forum for Contemporary Dance in the 90ies, is a member of ITI Germany and in the board of trustees of Fonds Darstellende Knste and the Kulturstiftung NRW. Since 2001 he is professor for contemporary dance at the University for Music and Performing Arts in Frankfurt a.M. where he is Director of the Department for Contemporary and Classical Dance/ ZuKT . 2005 until 2008 he was the dean for the Performing Arts Department. Since 2006 he is on the board of directors of Tanzlabor_21/ Tanzplan Deutschland and since 2007 he is one of the speakers for the AKT/ Ausbildungskonferenz Tanz.
